The local hacks have been pouring over B.J. Raji’s contract numbers this week and lo and behold, they’ve actually found something interesting. The Green Bay Packers are really only on the hook for $500,000 of the one-year, $4 million contract Raji signed last week.
That’s the amount of Raji’s signing bonus, which is a far cry from the $17.7 million in guarantees Raji got after being the No. 9 overall selection in the 2009 draft.
So the Packers are not only going to make Raji’s fat ass earn his next contract, they’re going to make him earn the right to remain on the team this year. If Raji were to continue his suck-ass level of play in training camp and the preseason, the Packers can cut him and it will only cost them $500,000 or $600,000.
On the flip side, they would save at least $3.4 million against this year’s salary cap (not that they need the room) — Raji’s $3.1 million base salary and $300,000 in roster bonuses. Raji is also due a $100,000 workout bonus, which will more than likely be paid prior to the season.
Wonder if that will motivate Raji. If it doesn’t, you’ve got to think his NFL career is getting pretty close to reaching its end. Just another fat, lazy bastard to throw on the pile of fat, lazy bastards.
