Yes, in case you didn’t see that flashing banner on the left side of the page, we’re just going to tell you. We launched a new site last week — Today in Green Bay Packers History.
You can find it at PackersToday.com.
It’s probably exactly what you think it is. Historical facts about the Green Bay Packers that happened on [insert date here]. It’s not a complete year’s worth of facts yet, however. We’re posting one each day. So if you want to know something that happened on November 9, you’ll have to wait until November 9.
I’ll give you a heads up though. I was born on that day, so feel free to start saving up for a really impressive present now. That fact won’t be appearing on the site. I just wanted you to be able to plan appropriately.
At any rate, here’s a little background.
At one time, I did some work with the Packers Hall of Fame. One of the projects I did for them was a 2013 calendar called This Date in Packers History. It was the same concept as the new site. The content for that calendar was written by Eric Goska, who also writes a Packers column for the Press Gazette. It was also used on the Packers Hall of Fame site, which is now defunct.
During the early part of 2013, we were planning on doing a 2014 version of the calendar. In order to do so, we had to rewrite all of the content and come up with a multitude of new facts.
And when I say “we,” I really mean “I.”
Then the Hall of Fame decided they wouldn’t support the calendar. I won’t get into the full details behind that, but the Packers organization was involved and a good Beastie Boys song is Sabotage.
So here I was sitting with all of these historical facts about the Green Bay Packers that were never going to see the light of day. Well, fuck that, I said.
I put the time in and so I’m going to do something with them. The site is that something.
It will be updated daily. You can check it out here.
If you want the updates automatically, then you should do one of the following:
- Follow @packershistory" target="_blank">@PackersHistory on Twitter
- Throw this RSS feed into your RSS reader: http://packerstoday.com/rss
The Packers Today updates will go to the Total Packers Facebook page as well.
Its a good idea, Monty. And as time goes on some “where are they now” features would be pretty cool. You know, like, what the heck is Anthony Dilweg or Bryce Paup up to these days anyhow?
Here’s to adding more good things to that calender in the future!
I’d love to get you something Monty, just so happens that is also my wife’s birthday…. only so much scrilla, yo,
“When I say we I meant I”… El-P reference, by any chance, Mr. McMahon, I know it’s a stretch?
Agreed, great idea, appreciate the time and effort you took to compile it, repect.
Haha, “Mr.McMahon.” I got confused at first because monday night raw is at the Resch center in Green Bay tonight. Maybe they will have some Packer guest appearances again.
