Donte Whitner, San Francisco (5-11, 205)
76 tackles, 2 INTs, 2 FF
Whitner isn’t the big ticket free agent that former 49ers safety Dashon Goldson was last season. He is, however, a guy that can bring it. Whitner tried to change his name to Hitner during the 2013 season. Then the NFL told him he’d have to buy their stock of Whitner jerseys and, well… Whitner has played eight seasons in the NFL and made the Pro Bowl in 2012. Despite his experience, he’s still just 28. The Packers have definitely had worse ideas than trying to poach a defensive player from the 49ers, who have one of the league’s best units, and also have our number. Just sayin’.
Jesus, is this it?
Forget these guys.
Yeah, like Donte Whitner, there are some good strong safeties in there, but strong safety is the only position that Burnett plays at even a mediocre level.
Packers need a centerfielder type FS. Jarius Byrd and Steve Brown are the only guys that fit that bill. Byrd will be too expensive and Brown is coming off a torn ACL.
I have four words for this situation- first round draft pick.
We’re not going to get any of these guys. We should just convert Micah Hyde to safety and take a safety in the first round of the draft.
Three words, but agreed we need to address this through the draft; I would rather see us draft a D-lineman or one of the few decent ILBs in the first or trade down and then draft 1 or 2 safeties in the 2nd.
My gut says that in the first round we will draft a WR, or maybe a guy who played ILB in college and high school to a safety spot. Why not!?
I think I like our chances with the college guys better.
Only the ghost knows. And don’t be too sure about that.
Polamalu will be a cap casualty and be a free agent. He is the Packer’s 2013 Eugene Robinson. Book it!
you had the audacity to mention MAJOR WRIGHT?!?!
They will restructure polamalu…he’s half the player he was 4 years ago.
