This is the week, everybody! This is the week where the Green Bay Packers get it done! That is, if you believe James Jones.
Jones was asked about Matt Flynn and his ability to throw the ball downfield. That’s something the Packers weren’t able to do, or didn’t try to do, with Flynn in the lineup last week.
That allowed the Lions to shut down the Packers running game and ultimately, their offense. The offense put up just three points against Detroit.
“We have to make some throws,” Jones said. “Everybody knows it. It’s going to be cold. They’re going to stack the box to try to stop James and Lacy. We have to make some throws and we have to make some catches. It will get done.”
So then the question came of whether Flynn can make the throws Jones is talking about. And here’s this ringing endorsement.
“Have you seen Matt make the throws?” Jones asked back to a pause. “I’ve seen him make them before, so I believe he can make them.”
Alright, maybe it’s not a ringing endorsement, but it’s starting to look like the Packers won’t have another option.
Although Scott Tolzien has the bigger arm, the Packers have decided to stick with Flynn. The word from 1265 is that the coaching staff likes Flynn’s experience in the system more than they like Tolzien’s big arm.
Flynn has had some success. He just didn’t have any of it last week.
Part of the reason for this was the awful play of the offensive line. If they don’t shape up this week, it’s not going to matter who’s playing quarterback.
