Mike Daniels Says Packers Need to Get Tougher

Mike Daniels

Well, the Green Bay Packers have got some problems, particularly on defense. Defensive tackle Mike Daniels thinks he has them diagnosed.

He says the Packers need to get tougher.

“We need to get tougher,” Daniels said. “We need to choke people, punch them in their throat. I mean, that guy got a helmet-to-helmet on us, you know what, but he was trying to send a message.

“Every now and then, you’ve got to do that. I’m not condoning illegal hits, but we’ve got to punch somebody in their throat for once.”

Daniels was referring to the hit Lions linebacker DeAndre Levy put on tight end Ryan Taylor on Thursday. That shot put Taylor out of the game.

Daniels went on…

“They just played a better game than us,” Daniels said. “But, like I said, we need to get more violent. I think we’ve lost some of that violence. Somewhere down the line, we’ve just got to get it done.”

Get it done, they haven’t.

The Packers defense can’t stop the run, they can’t tackle, they rarely create turnovers and they can’t get off the field on third down. So is violence the answer?

Probably not exactly. The Packers certainly don’t need to start adding penalties to the mix.

The heart of the issue, and what we think Daniels is getting at, is a lack of leadership and any sort of fire or passion. It’s like guys are just out there to collect their checks.

The leadership role on defense was supposed to go to Clay Matthews this year, but let’s face it. Matthews is a play hard kind of guy, but he hasn’t really shown any leadership qualities.

What about Morgan Burnett? Well, he isn’t even playing well, but he hasn’t demonstrated any of those qualities either.

And don’t even get me started on A.J. Hawk.

The heart of the defense left 1265 when Ted released Charles Woodson.

I’ve been waiting for someone to step-up and show some balls from this defense. Mike Daniels sounds pissed. Where are the other guys on defense that should be pissed off?….What has Dom Capers had to say?….Has he said anything?…I fucking doubt it. Thank you Mike Daniels for showing some passion….It’s rare, but appreciated.

  2. PF4L November 30, 2013

    Isn’t Tramon a leader?…ok, i’ll shut-up, my bad.

  3. PF4L November 30, 2013

Truth be told. I think AJ Hawk is more of a leader than most on that entire team. including McCarthy and Capers. I didn’t mean to insinuate that Capers is a leader, that was an insult to leadership…..my bad.

  4. Wolverine Packers November 30, 2013

Just watched the wolverines get beat by ohio but was proud they played with some passion and grit. The Packers don’t even play for their pride anymore. Soft, unmotivated, and without the will to try and win. Will always stick by them but something has to change.

  5. Mike November 30, 2013

I believe that Johnny Jolly may be a leader as well. Sam Shields and CMIII seem to at least lead by example, other than that, who knows?

    1. PF4L November 30, 2013

I saw Jolly walking around on the sideline talking, like he was pissed off, i’ll take more players like that.

Woodson was the guy who publicly blamed the 49er fiasco on Dumb Capers. While Woodson was obviously not worth 10 mil a year, Ted may have had other motives for showing Woodson the door.

    1. PF4L November 30, 2013

Woodson was pissed off after the 49er debacle. He seemed almost as pissed off as I was. He was asked what adjustments Capers made at halftime in that game. Woodson told the reporter he didn’t make any adjustments. We don’t know what Capers thoughts were, as he didn’t make himself available to comment after the game…Big surprise there.

Did anyone see that hit Matthews put on Bush or Bell on the HB Middle Screen? That was nasty-you just don’t run screens vs. Clay Matthews, ask Eli.

“They just played a better game than us,” Daniels said. “But, like I said, we need to get more violent. I think we’ve lost some of that violence. Somewhere down the line, we’ve just got to get it done.”

Now, wouldn’t it be nice…to hear that coming from Dom Capers? Just sayin.

But at this point, I’d like to hear ANYTHING, something from Dom Capers.

Yo Dom?…..You still the Packers Defensive Coordinator?…Have anything at all to say? Your players are showing more leadership than you are. Wanna step up?

Pickett and Raji have the personality of a teddy bear. Get Nick Collins a good neck brace and throw him on the field.

“Mike Daniels Says Packers Need to Get Tougher”

So, basically the same thing everyone said during the ENTIRE. FUCKING. OFFSEASON.

It’s not much a revelation 11 weeks into the god damned season.

  12. PF4L November 30, 2013

At least Mike Daniels plays tough, giving him some room to talk. Something not many others are doing, besides just saying, duh ummm, duh we got our butts kicked, duh ummm”. No offense McCarthy

  13. PF4L November 30, 2013

    Green Bay Packers ✔ @packers

McCarthy-The NFL will humble you quickly. It was a very convincing win. We all know we need to get better. We’ll take that hard lesson and be ready to lose again next week.. #Packers

  14. Starr57 November 30, 2013

To be fair, the defense did create 3 turnovers early and score The Packers only td.
Tough to stay motivated when you realize your offense is going to go 3 and out, then the punt team gives up bog returns, and you are suppose to shut down what has been a pretty good offense for 3 more quarters.

Lot’s of blame to go around, still 4 games left, anything can happen.

I knew I liked Daniels for more than just his relentless motor, it’s also because he’s a fucking assassin at heart, just like me.

“The heart of the defense left 1265 when Ted released Charles Woodson.”

Don’t tell me you’re crying about that. Maybe he was the heart but the dude just can’t play… And I’m a fuckin Woodson guy. Our safeties blow, but an old Chuck wouldn’t help. Shit, he was blowing assignments and reaching/grabbing in an attempt to make up for his diminished athleticism his last years for us… He wouldn’t be any better than MD, unfortunately. His penalties were just too costly.

Get the fuck over Woodson, Nimrod.

I saw there pregame huddle before the viqueers game..and who was doing the motivating? Datone Jones!!! How pathetic is your leadership..when a rookie..who hasnt played much..has to try to motivate this team?

    1. Phatgzus December 1, 2013

Amazing that you can find the negative in a young player taking a leadership role.
Not all leaders are verbal leaders and we don’t know what goes on behind the scenes.

  17. tedtomato December 1, 2013

You overpaid some of your stars!! Shouldnt one of them step up?
