In case you haven’t noticed, the worst full-time kicker in the NFL last season, Mason Crosby, just might be the best this season.
A year after hitting an atrocious (and career-low) 63.6 percent of his field goals, Crosby has made all nine of his attempts this season. That includes a nice 5-for-5 last Sunday.
That effort earned Crosby NFC special teams player of the week honors.
So, I’ve probably just jinxed him by pointing all of this out.
Or, maybe he got the message from the Green Bay Packers in the offseason. That was a pretty clear one — get your shit together or we’re moving on.
Not only did the Packers bring in competition for Crosby — in the form of Giorgio Tavecchio — for the first time in years, but they also made Crosby take a pay cut this season.
Whatever happened, it worked… at least so far.
The real test will come when it gets cold and the winds are swirling in Lambeau, but so far, so good.
