[tps_title]Brandon Bostick[/tps_title]
This guy was an undrafted free agent the Packers signed in 2012. He spent all last season on the practice squad. Further, he was a receiver in college at Newberry College. Where the hell is Newberry College? Don’t know.
And don’t care to look it up.
Suffice it to say Newberry College ain’t Alabama.
So Big Ted plucked Brandon Bostick out of some tiny-ass school and said, “Hey, we think you can be a tight end!”
And become a tight end Brandon Bostick has. He’s not going to supplant Jermichael Finley, but Bostick has been impressive this preseason. He can catch the ball, he can run the routes and he’s learning how to block.
There have even been reports that other teams are looking to trade for him. If the Packers don’t trade him, Bostick may beat out holdover Andrew Quarless for a roster spot.
I agree Mulumba has shown flashes. What he needs to do is not lose that desire. I’m thinking of guys like Zombo, Dezman Moses, etc who looked good for one freaking year, then went in the tank for whatever reason.
Zombo got hurt pretty bad. It’s a shame, because the guy played hard, and has a great name.
My question would be: if you are going to bring in someone to just block, why not put an extra T out on those plays? Would it be too obvious? Is Mulligan like a back-up T that has better hands than, say, Newhouse?
Flexibility if Rodgers calls an audible, or wants to send Mulligan in motion, I can’t recall ever seeing an o-linemen go in motion. It may also create some hesitancy on the defense as to whether the play is a pass or run, even if Mulligan isn’t a major pass-catching threat (Crabtree wasn’t either) I’d contend he’s a better receiver than Newhouse. That being said, having 2 TEs or a known blocking TE in the formation is usually a good indicator you’re going to run.
maybe they can ride to the stadium together on game day in one of those tiny electric cars. they pull up to Lambeau and everybody starts popping out……
Good write up and I agree w/every one. Mulligan as we see above has his doubters still. Newhouse can’t run block to save his life, so no you want Mulligan in there. He essentially replaces Crabtree. Throw in Bostic and butter-fingered Williams, and there’s your TE group. Kuhn makes it, too, especially now that Harris is on IR.
I am fine with Kuhn making the roster as long as they never, fucking ever, hand off the ball to him again. Ever!
“He’s got a crew cut and he’s white, so you know he only does one thing well and we’re not talking about dancing”.
