Second-round pick Eddie Lacy is officially under contract with the Green Bay Packers, according to Adam Schefter.
We don’t know the terms, but these rookie deals are all pretty standard fare based on draft position. What’s better news is the Packers have signed their entire draft class with the exception of first-rounder Datone Jones.
Once Jones’ deal is done, the Packers can turn their attention to other contractual matters. They need to decide what to do about cornerback Sam Shields, who hasn’t signed his one-year restricted free agent tender. Shields obviously wants a long-term deal and the Packers were said to be working in that direction before the draft. Then there’s defensive tackle B.J. Raji, who the Packers will look to extend at some point.
Lacy, meanwhile, finds himself in a crowded backfield. He’ll compete with fourth-round pick Johnathan Franklin, the suddenly healthy Alex Green and DuJuan Harris, the Packers best runner last season, for playing time.
