Charles Woodson Signed with the Raiders

Charles Woodson

Charles Woodson has a home again and it’s the same place he called home before spending seven seasons with the Green Bay Packers. Woodson signed a one-year deal with the Oakland Raiders on Tuesday.

Not surprisingly, the deal isn’t worth much. It’s a one-year pact worth up to $4.3 million and included a $700,000 signing bonus. That “up to” part is key there.

Woodson’s base salary is only $1.8 million, which means $2.5 million is made up of incentives mostly likely tied to playing time and performance. That’s a far cry from the $10 million Woodson was scheduled to make this year before the Packers cut him.

Woodson didn’t have many options, though.

He visited San Francisco and Denver, but neither team offered him a contract. Woodson even expressed interest in possibly playing for the Detroit Lions, so you know he was getting desperate.

Although he’ll probably suffer through a losing season, Woodson should have a decent shot at playing time. The Raiders defense was pretty awful last season.

good luck Chuck. I hope he helps to turn around the defense for the Raiders. see you in Canton…..

  2. 阮宁 May 22, 2013

Glad someone was willing to pay him… it’d be a shame if he retired because he was completely unwanted.

    1. Phatgzus May 22, 2013

      See Brian Urlacher.

  3. Adam May 22, 2013

Best wishes to him. He’s been one of my favorite all-around athletes since his college days and I was a bit saddened when the Pack released him, but it’s business.

Good luck Chuck. Go win the AFC West (or at least the Bolts) so all these Charger fans here in San Diego can shut the hell up.

Feel you on that one here in the Imperial Valley its the same. By any chance do you know that famous packer fan from San Diego who has a Packer bar in his house?

  4. Vijay May 22, 2013

We couldn’t find a couple million for this HOF and team leader? Puh-lease…

    1. ay hombre May 22, 2013

Leadership ceases to exist when you play outside the system and fail repeatedly. Is that the example we want to set for our younger players? I wish Wood all the best…but this move was for the best.

      …STFU !!!

      Move on.
      Get over your man-crush.

      He’s now old. brittle. slow.

We’ve been over this with you time… and time… and time again.

Why not bring back Willie Wood, too ????

      1. Phatgzus May 22, 2013

Ooooh, we should bring back Wood, and Hutson, Nitschke, Reggie and Lombardi too! We’d be unstoppable.

  5. Iltarion May 22, 2013

I’m sad to hear that C-Wood couldn’t find an actual NFL team to play for.

Anyway, at least its close to his vineyard.

  6. Felix May 22, 2013

Woodson on revamped defense will be nothing like last year. ONCE A RAIDER ALWAYS A RAIDER !! Green bay not the team they were either. Get over yourself haters.

  7. GB#1 May 22, 2013

    Dear Charles,

I used to like you. But now that you’re playing for another team, I don’t like you anymore. Don’t come crawling back asking Green Bay if you can retire as a Packer.

    Yours Truly,

P.S. “One mind, one goal, one purpose and one heart” my @$$! You liar! You faker!

    1. Savage57 May 22, 2013

WTF? Are you sane? Oakland is paying him $4.3MM plus per year to play. Hmmmh, some loser Packer fan won’t like me anymore or I can add some serious jing to make bank? Time to move out of the sandbox and into the real world where professional athletes sell themselves for the biggest contract.

And in the large scheme of things, Wood doesn’t give a rats ass if it’s the Packers, Raiders or Kutztown State Fighting Amish he retires from.

      FYI, Santa Claus isn’t real.

      1. Phatgzus May 23, 2013

Pretty sure the above was a sardonic comment on certain Packer (and sports in general) fans, duder.

      2. GB#1 May 23, 2013

You can’t be that stupid. Oh wait, I guess you can. Have a nice day dum-dum!

        Yours Truly,

P.S. Phatgzus, you’re right on point.

He’ll be at the vineyard everyday drinking his sorrows away realizing he’s once again apart of the Probation Nation, aka Chokeland Raiders.

Lost two steps, could’ve been called for holding every play due to decreased physical tools. Loved the dude when he was good, but, he’s not anymore, so, where does one go at that point ? Jokeland. Well, Jokeland or Queensland… Jokeland, in this case.

Vijay, Bruh, a couple Mil for what? A veteran presence? Because it certainly wouldn’t be for his play. That guy may be the worst person for young, impressionable DB’s to watch! His body just can’t do what it once did, so now he’s forced to hold/tackle before the ball arrives. Dude’s old, it sucks, but we’re better off without him.

  11. Tucson Packer May 22, 2013

Raiders = AFC So stop whining people. Who would rather see him in the Hormel land? Besides, how much of a threat are the Raiders? calm down yall

  12. FITZCORE1252 May 22, 2013

Kutztown State is my alma mater, I’m wearing a fighting amish T-shirt right now!
