Your Dreams of Colt McCoy on Packers: Shattered!

Colt McCoy

The Green Bay Packers will not be acquiring the backup quarterback they have long been rumored to be interested in acquiring after all. The Cleveland Browns traded Colt McCoy to the San Francisco 49ers.

Yes, we know. Your dreams are shattered.

The Packers were hot after McCoy around the 2012 draft when the Browns were busy drafting Brandon Weeden to replace him. This offseason, the Browns signed retread Jason Campbell to compete with Weeden, who pretty much had no business starting for the team in the first place.

That left McCoy as the odd man out and everyone figured the Browns would cut him. Then they insisted they wouldn’t and we all laughed. “What moron team would give the Browns something for a guy that isn’t going to be on their roster anyway?” we all wondered.

Now you have your answer. A team with 14 draft picks.

The 49ers gave up a late-round pick, which will essentially turn out to be a seventh-rounder. And now they still have a whopping, league-high 13 draft picks this year. It saves them the trouble of drafting and signing a guy they’re going to end up cutting anyway. They also have a backup quarterback, which they haven’t had since trading Alex Smith.

As for the Packers, well, they still have McCoy’s old college nemesis, Graham Harrell. And he’ll probably get better.

Good God let’s get to the draft. Wake me up on April 25th.

I wouldn’t say acquiring Colt McCoy means you now have a back up QB any more than acquiring a Nike visor means you now have a golf game.

Now if you had a Nike visor and a red golf shirt…

The only thing I like about Colt McCoy is his name….maybe he should give up football and become a bronc rider in the PRCA….I can hear it now, “all around Champion Rodeo star, Colt McCoy”…..definitely…:)

Who was dreaming of Colt McCoy? If AR goes down for an extended length of time the Pack is screwed no matter if the backup was McCoy, Harrell, or Matt Flynn. With no running game to speak of AR HAS to stay health if the Pack wants to contend.

No Colt McCoy? have a Colt 45 malt liquor instead, if they still make them…………..woo hoo!

    1. Savage57 April 2, 2013

They still do. Was out getting ‘spirits’ for a party and noticed a big ol’ cut-out of Snoop-Dog hawking Colt 45.

My buddy and I picked up a 4 pack just for shits and grins, and the stuff still sucks.

It would be nice to have a solid plan B if Rodgers goes down. Someone that could win a game or 2.

God knows unless we draft Ed Lacy we ain’t runnen the football.

Never forget, when the Pack won the SB, Rodgers went down with 2 concussions that season. & as a result, we lost to New England in a crucial game.

    Is b Favre available

  8. Snarff1 April 1, 2013

Ed Lacy is damaged goods, Bad knee and a torn hammy, he will need surgery, gone for the year, just like most of our #1 draft picks. I would rather draft Montee Ball in round 2 or 3.

“retread” jason campbell… lol this is why i keep coming back to totalpackers

It would not surprise me in the least if Ted shocks the Packer faithful and takes a QB in the mid rounds. Someone like Zac Dysert from Miami of Ohio or Matt Scott from AZ. If he took Scott, it would actually be a good thing because we could have him run the read-option offense during practices (something he did a lot of in college).

The only former Brown the Packers will be adding to their roster this year is…say it with me…PEYTON HILLIS.
