We Know Which Offensive Linemen Aaron Rodgers Doesn’t Like

Marshall Newhouse

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was on 102.9 The Hog in Milwaukee on Tuesday and although he wouldn’t discuss his contract, he was pretty candid about his offensive line.

First, Rodgers singled out center Evan Dietrich-Smith for praise. However, in doing so, he totally trashed the recently-retired Jeff Saturday, who Dietrich-Smith replaced in the starting lineup toward the end of the 2012 season.

“I think having Dietrich-Smith starting the year out at center is going to be a big improvement for us,” Rodgers said. “He’s going to do a good job. I like his future.”

Rodgers went on to talk about Josh Sitton, T.J. Lang, Bryan Bulaga and even undrafted rookie Don Barclay, who filled in for Bulaga at right tackle after he was lost for the season. Who isn’t on that list?

Why, left tackle Marshall Newhouse, of course!

Although he improved in his second season as a starter, Newhouse was still among the Packers’ worst offensive linemen. Newhouse would have taken that title alone if it weren’t for Saturday, who was benched, and Lang, who totally sucked it up when asked to fill in at right tackle, but was otherwise decent at his usual left guard position.

The Packers have already satisfied Rodgers by replacing Saturday with Dietrich-Smith and they’re looking for a way to replace Newhouse. That will mean either giving former first-round pick Derek Sherrod a chance to start or moving Bulaga from right to left tackle and inserting Barclay into the lineup full time.

No. There is the draft. Where the Packers build there team.

I’m still not giving-up on Sherrod.

Recent Mock Drafts show names like; Menelik Watson, Justin Pugh or Kyle Long as possible 1st-round picks at #26.

    1. Savage57 April 2, 2013

If TT pisses away another pick on a DL or an OL, I am going to go absolutely batshit, effin nuts.

Please Ted, please, draft anyone but a lineman.

Get those off the waiver wire, FA, trades, kidnapping – I don’t give a shit. But please, no more drafting linemen.

God bless your soul, but for whatever reason you can’t pick the big uglies to save your life. But damn, you can pick a QB!

      1. TyKoSteamboat April 2, 2013

We haven’t drafted a running back in the 1st round since Darrel Thompsen in 1990.

I would be happy if we got Lacy (from Alabama) & i’m usually pretty conservative with those high picks…

        1. Iltarion April 2, 2013

Lacy has a bad hamstring. You seriously want to mess with that?

          1. TyKoSteamboat April 2, 2013

Who would you like to see us get?

We need a running back & an offensive lineman more than anything.

& please, for the love of God…don’t say Montee Ball.

        2. Vijay April 3, 2013

No, La’Veon Bell is the target they should be after, if not him then Stepfan Taylor. Both those guys have huge lower halves and can take the beating in the NFL. La’Veon being my first choice for them, they would have to trade back into top of Rd #2 and hope he’s there for the taking. He will not be around at the end of Rd #2 (Steelers love him). If they miss on him, the could probably grab Stepfan early 3rd but would need to make some move up to assure themselves of that.

  2. Packer Bob April 2, 2013

Wow, this site is almost has bad as the NFL Network. Creating drama where no drama exists. ;)

While I agree Newhouse is the weak link, not including Newhouse doesn’t mean Rodgers doesn’t have confidence in him. Is that double negative?

    1. PackAttack April 2, 2013

      Hey Bob,

New flash — Newhouse sucks and even if Rodgers went on NFL Network and sat down with one of those hot blondes and said, “dude Marshal Newhouse sucks balls” — the guy is so much of a nobody it wouldn’t even generate news. The only person in the civilized world that would care would be you.

      1. Savage57 April 2, 2013

I’ve never seen a ‘hot blonde’ on NFL network. There’s kind of a horsey face, large chick with blonde locks on there, but who’s the ‘hot blonde’ I’ve been missing?

        1. PackAttack April 3, 2013

Jaime Maggio I think is the horsey face one your talking about — I think I’d have to put a bag over her head to take her down — but I’m always for a good rock if it means banging a celebrity — just to say you did it.

Lindsay Soto, you know she’s a sloot. She’s a blonde who’s probably running around with any brother she can get her hands on.

Michelle Beisner and Alex Flanagan are two others I can think of.

      2. Packer Bob April 3, 2013

        Hey PackAttack,

        News flash – you’re an idiot. :)

        1. PackAttack April 3, 2013

That’s the best you got Bob?

Go back to the drawing board and come up with something a little better than that.

          1. Packer Bob April 3, 2013

Yeah, I could. But why would I waste my time?

  3. PackAttack April 2, 2013

The O-line is an absolute joke. You got all these “experts” that show up on here running their mouths about how great the Pack are and how other organizations are striving to be more like Ted Thompson’s Packers. But then you look at the O-line, the D-line, the secondary, the lack of a running game — and it looks like this team has more holes than swish cheese.

I can’t see Sherrod being ready for OTA’s, who knows what Bulaga is going to bring to the table — didn’t we draft this guy to stablize the LT position or was he always destined for RT?

Fear not tho — DuJuan “the used car salesman” Harris will cure all our problems. We don’t need an offensive line with that guy! Forget guys like AP, Rice, Lynch, CJ or Martin — we got DuJuan! The undrafted 5-8 brotha who’s been released by two other teams but will get the gig over Alex Green (nice 3rd round pick), Starks and who’s the other RB we have?

    Ah well, who cares.

    Draft away Ted!

    1. Buster Bluth April 2, 2013

The disturbing thing about Thompson is that the moves he DOES make at RB tend to be awful. ( Don’t forget about Brandon, no action, Jackson) Still they almost have to take a back in the first four rounds.
Then, again, if they can get Bradshaw for a song that would add another injured back to his stable of misfits.

      1. PackAttack April 3, 2013

OHHHHHHHHH – AWFUL! Your 100% right!

Ted Thompson picking a RB in the draft is like McCarthy picking his nose. It’s embarrassing and disgusting at the same time.

Let’s take a look here at Thompson picking RB’s — Brandon “no action” Jackson, is there a worse pick in Thompson’s career — the answer to that question is yes. But let’s keep going, how about DeShawn “whooooo?” Wynn, Quinn johnson (was Thompson serious with this pick?), if you want to call James Starks a successful pick in the 6th round — ok. He’s had one good playoff game against Philly 3 years ago and really that’s all that holds him up. He’s started 4 games in 3 years and scored 2 touchdowns and has never run for over 100 yards in a regular season game. My god. Continuing we have Alex Green in the 3rd round in 2011 — and to say it plainly — this guy fucking sucks. 135 carries last year and the bum managed 3.4 yards per/carry, averaged 37 yards per/game and score 0 touchdowns. What a joke.

Ted, you’ve done a nice job picking up practice squad players who’ve been released by other teams and finding used car salesmen but your RB draft resume is beyond pathetic, I’d call it a failure.

And your going to find guys on here who will bend over for Ted and just eat up every move he does and doesn’t make. “Ohhhh he drafted Rodgers, Jennings and Matthews — ohhhh man, he’s the greatest GM of all time”. But you know what that’s kinda like saying the Vikings drafted AP, Chad Greenway, Matt Kalil and Percy Harvin. It’s not like Thompson is God when it comes to the draft — the long and the short of it is this — the Packers have Rodgers, he’s the best QB in the game, Thompson got lucky when the 49ers fucked up on taking Alex Smith and Rodgers fell all the way to him at #24 — end of story.

Thompson has not drafted any better than any of the other GM’s in football the last few years. He’s missed on just as many good players as he landed — but by no means is this guy the ultimate draft strategist.

I would expect him to fuck up on the RB situation again — and DuJuan Harris will be in for a rude awakening come Week 1.

        2. Vijay April 3, 2013

I agree with PackAttack….all of the rest of you schlums will see that both he and I am right about Ted as the upcoming season plays itself out. Once again, we will be one and then done in the playoffs. You don’t build greatness, or even come close to sustaining it by constantly having a reputation as a “cheap” fixer upper. I think a lot of us would trade in the last few years of Rodgers in his mid 30s if we could build him the best Championship caliber team today. It’s not all bad news, Ted has managed to build a solid roster over the years but a Championship roster, that’s quite another story.

I’m not discounting their achievement in 2010, but in the NFL it’s all about what have you done for me lately? Besides, winning one Championship does raise the expectations of your fan base. We’ll see…but so far, it looks like yet another “rebuild” type year with a good shot to win the division or make the playoffs but not to advance to the Championship game or SB. I never count out what Rodgers could do in a playoff scenario.

          1. Phatgzus April 3, 2013

“…In the NFL it’s all about what have you done for me lately?”

Yes it is, and that’s one of the NFL’s major issues; you don’t build a dynasty in 3 years, or 5, or 7 for that matter.

” I think a lot of us would trade in the last few years of Rodgers in his mid 30s if we could build him the best Championship caliber team today.”

I think you’re wrong, I think most Packer fans want to see Rodgers play for as long as he is amazing, which, ostensibly is a very long time. As long as he’s on our team, we have a significant chance to win it all every year.

“…It looks like yet another ‘rebuild’ type year with a good shot to win the division or make the playoffs…”

I don’t think you understand what rebuilding is, ask Raiders or Vikings fans, their teams have been rebuilding for decades.

    2. Packer Bob April 3, 2013

Congrats PackAttack, everyone here is now dumber for having read your comment.

      1. Iltarion April 3, 2013

        Your mistake for reading it.

        1. Packer Bob April 3, 2013

          I didn’t say that I read it, now did I? :)

  4. Mike April 2, 2013

Please people….stop reading what PackerBob says. He’s the least qualified person to talk football. And since there are no necessary qualifications….that should drop a hint as to how stupid he is.

    1. Savage57 April 2, 2013

      Now you have me wondering…

      Am I qualified?

But since there are no qualifications, then by inference and induction, based upon the proposition you are advancing here, I can also speculate and possibly even conclude that I am stupid due to that very absence of qualifications.

Google circular reasoning. And I don’t even know who PackerBob is.

    2. Iltarion April 2, 2013

How the eff would you know how “qualified” Packer Bob is to talk about anything?

      Is he your brother?

The odd thing is that among all the fruitcakes writing crazy crap on here, you pick on someone who is actually reasonable.

      Go figure.

    3. PackAttack April 3, 2013

      100% agreed! Well said!

      1. PackAttack April 3, 2013

I was referring to Mike not you Iltarion. Your a dumb piling of “effing” cow shit.

“The odd thing is that among all the fruitcakes writing crazy crap on here, you pick on someone who is actually reasonable.”

The odd thing is, and the irony of that comment, is that you are the king of fruitcakes on here. Now I know I’m a prick and I’ll admit it proudly. I’m an “effing” loser who has nothing better to do than sit on GB packer forum and run my mouth — but at least I can admit it. While you on the other hand are just absolutely clueless in every sense of the word. Your a joke and everyone knows it. You not only take yourself seriously but you think what you say is actually right which makes you even worse than the typical idiot on here like Bob. Well, let’s not sugar coat it — Bob’s a dumb pile of shit too.

You rip Monty for what he posts, yet you still come on here and read every word. You’d gladly bend over a sink for TT, but you fail to realize that there are 32 other GM’s in the league some of whom have actually been to and won multiple Super Bowls — believe it or not.

And — that’s enough. I’ve wasted enough time on you tonight. I don’t read your replies or Bob’s, I never do.

        Burn in hell Iltarion

        1. Phatgzus April 3, 2013

          Do you have rabies?

        2. TyKoSteamboat April 3, 2013

          you mad bro?

        3. Iltarion April 3, 2013

Since I don’t read PackAttack’s nonsensical babble, I couldn’t care less what he says.

That is the beauty of boards like this: if you don’t like what someone has to say, DON’T READ IT.

          Very simple equation.

          1. Phatgzus April 3, 2013

I don’t agree with anything he says, but boy is his nonsensical palaver entertaining, like watching a bear in a tutu trying to perform ballet.

    4. Packer Bob April 3, 2013

I just repeat what I read and hear from people who are qualified.

  5. Dustin April 2, 2013

We won’t draft a lt in the first… We’ll wait for sherrod or move bulaga to lt and let Barclay and sherrod fight it out. Menelik Watson is about two years away from being ready to play at the pro level on the blind side for A Rid. Also Newhouse is a badass swing tackle, just gotta get Derrick healthy. No hope we draft Matt Elam, johnathan cyprien, Datone jones, or Kawaan Short. Need to go D basically. Maybe Kennan Allen or Eiffert… I prefer going D in round 1 though

  6. Richard April 2, 2013

Need to get Knile Davis. Ridiculous potential. Can’t be much worse than the turds on the roster now.

    1. PackAttack April 3, 2013

Does anyone know who the hell Loyce Means is? Apparently he was our big FA signing. Ted went all out to get his ass into GB. Where can we get his jersey?

I don’t know about the rest of you guys but I like Garth Gerhart and James Nixon this year! I’m thinking with them on the roster we should all get Super Bowl tickets while they last.

  7. cd4packers April 3, 2013

So Rodgers fails to mention Newhouse….does that really mean that he is discrediting the guy? Not for sure, but I know that I don’t like how Newhouse plays. I’m ready to see TT get one legit help on the Oline in the draft. Newhose s not doing his job…what more is there to say? Why wold Rodgers waste his breath talking about a mediocre football player like Marshall Newhouse who is probably on his way to the bench next season. Unless he was going to be a for sure starter…I doubt that Rodgers would give him the time of day when discussing aspects of his offense. The fact that Rodgers did not mention Newhouse says to me…that he (Newhouse) is possibly going to be seeing less playing time next season…so why even bring the guy up? of course, that’s just my take on it…as I said earlier…we are not mind readers…and assuming Rodgers dislikes Newhouse because he did not mention him…is so insightful…not, lol .

    1. Packer Bob April 3, 2013

Exactly. Creating drama where none exists. But I sure got a lot of comments posted, didn’t it?

Let’s just say Rodgers did leave out Newhouse on purpose. He just shit on the guy who protects his blindside (even if it’s only for a few plays). Not a very smart move. I happen to think Rodgers is a pretty smart and humble guy. I don’t think he would say anything that could be misconstrued as a jab at one of his offensive lineman.

      But that’s just my opinion.

      1. Packer Bob April 3, 2013

Sorry, I meant to say “it sure got a lot of comments posted”, not “I got a lot comment posted” :)

  8. ThisGuy April 3, 2013

Ahh, yet another well thought out, mature, and sensible rant by Deputy PackAttack. Douchebag.

  9. lars1 April 3, 2013

Rodgers better get used to Newhouse, because Sherrod is a bust, no matter how many Packer fans continue to live in denial with that fact.

Get ready for another DLineman in R1.

    1. Packer Bob April 3, 2013

How can you say that when he hasn’t even played a full season? He suffered a horrific injury. Give the guy a chance to heal and play before you label him a bust.

  10. Vijay April 3, 2013

What’s Ted had, 7 years to build the line through the draft and develop method…hmm…7 years…I guess that’s not too long, right?

    1. Packer Bob April 3, 2013

He’s taken the Packers to 3 consecutive playoff appearances and won a Superbowl with that line. And without signing a FA. I’d say the draft and develop method is pretty damn good.

      1. Packer Bob April 3, 2013

Oh, my bad. 4 consecutive playoff appearances. Horrible, just horrible.

  11. Dustin April 3, 2013

Teds one of the best GMs in the business, let him do his thing. Although he seriously can’t draft runningbacks to save his life. I got a feeling he’ll be getting Ball, Bell, or Taylor at the end of this month. We could really use a between the tackles kind of back. Ball can do it all, hope he’s our guy at the end of the day. How can u say Sherrod is a bust, the kid got his fucking leg snapped… Pray his leg heals and he’s able to contribute you negative shit

  12. Packer Bob April 3, 2013

LOL. Nice try. What are you like 8 years old? You pretend to be me and then post something lame like “man, I suck”? Wow, you have no imagination (or balls for that matter).
