What could beat that? Of course it’s Scooter McLean’s lone draft at the helm. McLean went 1-10-1 as head coach, but maybe that was some karmic way of repaying him for this haul.
The Packers scored four Pro Bowlers in 1958, including Hall of Famers Jim Taylor (2nd) and Ray Nitschke (3rd).
Taylor went to five Pro Bowls, was first-team All Pro once, led the NFL in rushing touchdowns twice and rushing yards once. He retired as the Packers all-time leading rusher and that record wasn’t broken until Ahman Green came along.
Nitschke played 15 seasons with the Packers, was first-team All Pro twice and made one Pro Bowl. He was a first-ballot Hall of Famer in 1978.
The other notables here are linebacker Dan Currie (1st), who played seven seasons with the Packers and notched one Pro Bowl and one first-team All Pro selection, and guard Jerry Kramer (4th).
Another guy who, arguably, deserves to be in the Hall of Fame, Kramer has been a finalist nine times. He was a three-time Pro Bowler and five-time first-team All Pro.
Interestingly, the Packers also drafted another guy who had a pretty stellar NFL career in 1958. They chose tackle Ken Gray in the sixth round. He never played for Green Bay, but ended up playing 13 NFL seasons and making six Pro Bowls.
