[tps_title]1. Reggie White[/tps_title]
A no brainer. Not only is Reggie White the greatest free agent signing in Packers history, he’s probably the greatest free agent signing in NFL history. When Ron Wolf signed White in 1993, Green Bay was considered a podunk town and a second-rate organization.
Well, Green Bay may still be a podunk town, but signing White put the NFL on notice — this is no longer a second-rate organization. At the time, White was in his prime and the biggest talent ever to hit the open market. His signing made the Packers legit after decades of bad coaches and worse personnel decisions had put the organization into a tailspin. This helped start the team on its return to glory.
In six seasons with Green Bay, White was a six-time Pro Bowler, two-time first-team All Pro and won defensive player of the year in 1998. White had 68 sacks with the Packers, including 16 in 1998 when he was 37 freakin’ years old!
Widely considered the best defensive lineman to ever play the game, Reggie White was a once-in-a-generation player and rightfully so, a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
