Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Tom Clements is interviewing for the Chicago Bears open head coaching position today.
Seems like odd timing.
The Packers could have required the Bears to wait until their season was over, but apparently the two organizations are buddy-buddy these days.
Clements won’t miss time with the Packers — today’s practice is already over and the team doesn’t leave for San Francisco until tomorrow. However, you have to wonder where Clements’ focus is.
Clements is among about 80 people the Bears have targeted for the job since they fired Lovie Smith after a 10-6 season. Most of those guys are offensive coaches.
This is Clements first season as the Packers offensive coordinator. He previously served as the team’s quarterbacks coach and his work with Aaron Rodgers and Matt Flynn is likely a prime reason he’s on the Bears’ radar.
You have to wonder. If Clements gets the job will he say his No. 1 priority is to beat the Green Bay Packers like Smith did when he got the job?
