The Green Bay Packers placed running back Cedric Benson on injured reserve, coach Mike McCarthy anounced today.
Benson suffered a Lisfranc sprain against Indianapolis on Sunday, leaving the game in the first half. Although Benson suggested the injury wasn’t serious at the time, he’s expected to miss at least eight weeks.
In year’s past, placing a player on injured reserve meant his season was over — players were not allowed to play for the team until the following season. That’s still the case for most players. However, starting this season, teams can designate one player who’s placed on injured reserve for return.
The Packers did it with Benson, meaning if he gets healthy he can return in eight weeks.
If the Packers can manage to get their act together and win some games in the meantime, this might actually prove to be a good move. McCarthy seemed to be making Benson a focal point of the offense when he went down.
Having him for a late-season playoff run, especially in the cold weather, could prove extremely useful.
Now, the Packers just need to get into the playoff picture.
If we don’t win against Houston, we’re done. I hate to say it but Chicago is on a roll (they may peak too early), however they’ll get into the playoffs and have a balanced attack of Defense, Special Teams, and Defense… Not to mention an easier schedule. In addition, the Viqueens seem to be winning games by playing solid defense and not putting too much pressure on their quarterback… Novel idea.
Remember two seasons ago when the bears got hot, won the division & the Pack started 3-3, finishing with 16* players on IR??? We won the fucken Superbowl.
Keep the faith.
I like this move with Benson. He WILL be back!
Let’s just win our games…we got the St. Louis Lambs, Az Cards & Jax Jaguars, Det. Lions, Minny ViQueens & Ten. Titans coming up…there are some very winable games there.
Never turn your back on the PACK!
TYVM TyKo….I needed that!
GO PACK GO!!!
+1 for Tyko
also bear in mind we finish with all the division games, i don’t see why we cant go 6-0 against the division so I see a strong end to the season. The key is locking up some of these tough road games like houston and Giants. Knowing the vikings and bears propensity to choke, i’d say it aint over till its over
