Forbes released their list of the 100 highest paid athletes yesterday. No members of the Green Bay Packers made the list, including league MVP Aaron Rodgers.
Boxer Floyd Mayweather was No. 1 on the list with an income of $85 million. Oh, and he’s in jail right now. While it’s absurd to think Rodgers would make that much, you’d think the best player in the NFL would have at least made the list.
Nope.
Meanwhile, schlubs like Charles Johnson (No. 15), Sam Bradford (No. 27), Mark Sanchez (No. 38), Vernon Wells (No. 49), Matthew Stafford (No. 58), Barry Zito (No. 76), Jonathan Joseph (No. 85) and Rashard Lewis (No. 87) all made the list.
Who the hell is Jonathan Joseph?
Peyton Manning was the top NFL earner, coming in at No. 10 overall with total earnings of $42.4 million and he didn’t even play a down of football in 2011.
Chicago White Sox pitcher Jake Peavy is No. 100 on the list with $16.6 million in earnings.
Rodgers is scheduled to make just over $11 million this season in salary and bonuses. He probably makes at least $500,000 in endorsements.
Considering Rodgers is not only a better player than most of the guys on the Forbes list and what he means to the Packers, it’s time the organization stepped up to the plate with a new deal.
