The NFL released a bunch of “evidence” against current and former members of the New Orleans Saints accused of participating in a bounty system, this week. One of the players this so-called evidence came out against is Green Bay Packers defensive end Anthony Hargrove.
While we’d characterize the evidence released as weak at best, there does seem to be one potentially damning piece of evidence against Hargrove. He’s supposedly heard on camera saying “Give me my money.”
The alleged incident occurred during the 2010 NFC Championship game against the Minnesota Vikings and was caught on tape by NFL Films. Hargrove, or whoever, uttered the request after Saints assistant coach Joe Vitt told the defense Brett Favre had been knocked out of the game.
Hargrove claims he wasn’t the one that demanded money and he may be telling the truth — he wasn’t involved in the hit that injured Favre. He’s getting an eight-game suspension nonetheless.
The NFL’s case is looking worse and worse everyday, but that really doesn’t matter. Commissioner Roger Goodell is judge, jury and executioner.
Fairness and due process don’t exist in the NFL.
