The one remaining Green Bay Packers‘ free agent we thought the team might have interest in appears to be ready to sign elsewhere. There hasn’t been much interest, from the Packers or anyone else, but it looks like running back Ryan Grant could have new contract and a new home soon.
His agent said he expects Grant to sign next week.
Though his agent, Alan Herman, declined to name the team, he said: “There’s some things actually going on with Ryan but not with Green Bay.”
“That’s a strong possibility, more than a strong possibility,” Herman said. “It could be as early as next week.”
It’s surprising the Packers haven’t made an offer to Grant. Although he rushed for only 559 yards last season, the Packers have a lot of question marks at running back right now.
The starter, James Starks, always seems to be battling some sort of injury. Alex Green, who was a rookie last season, is coming off a torn ACL. Brandon Saine, the other halfback on the roster, was an undrafted rookie last year.
The team can always turn to fullback John Kuhn in a pinch, but he hardly offers the explosiveness of Grant.
We expect the Packers will turn their attention to the draft to add another back.
Draft a capable back in the 4th round. Starks needs to get his head out of his a$$ and start running with power like he did at the end of our Superbowl season. In addition, Alex Green could be a great third down back if he comes back completely healthy from his injury.
So long, Grant. Happy TT didn’t sign you to a big deal a few years ago.
The running game starts with the O-line unless your running back is Matt Forte. Our line can’t keep Rodgers off his back. I think with a solid line Saine may be impressive.
Grant’s had injuries, too. Honestly, I wish him well either way but my heart won’t be broken if he moves on.
GO PACK GO!
Cyrus Gray. ‘Nuff said.
I feel bad about this one. But it’s a devalued position, especially in Green Bay. Though, imagine how unbelievably unstoppable they’d be with a powerful running game as well. Not enough balls to go around-hehe.
Good Move. Grant has had flashes of real production but that is about it.
Grant was a never been.
