Rodgers Now Getting Compared To Montana

Aaron Rodgers

Pretty damn good.

Yeah, we all know — Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is a hell of a player.

He’s having a great season. He throws a beautiful ball. He makes great decisions. None debatable.

While Rodgers is getting praise from just about everyone, it hadn’t crossed our mind to compare him to arguably the greatest quarterback to ever play the game. That’s just what Packers coach Mike McCarthy did though.

“He is clearly the best decision maker that I’ve been around since my time in Kansas City with Joe Montana. He does not get bored throwing completions and that’s a great attribute to have as a quarterback. He’s clearly in tune with taking what the defense gives you. He has the anticipation, arm strength, dead accuracy to attack the seams. He does a great job of staying disciplined and playing within the offense.”

High praise.

Rodgers has thrown for 2,372 yards and 20 touchdowns this season against only three interceptions. His quarterback rating is 125.7.

I saw Montana in his prime. He never played as well as A-Rodge is playing now. A-Rodge has a stronger arm. Montana might be a little more athletic.

Montana never threw for 4000 yards. It is a tough comparison. Montana had a good running game to rely on and a capable defense.

He never had to do everything Rodgers has to. On the other hand, he never got the chance to try either.

The game is faster and more advanced now. Montana then couldn’t keep up with NFL now.

    Rodgers > Montana

Bad argument supported by flawed logic. Increases in speed, skill and pace are relative to all aspects of the game and serve to equalize generational comparisons.

Montana won because he was smarter than everybody else, played to his strength’s and understood and played within a system he exploited to max effect with an outstanding group of players around him.

      Sound familiar…

Until Rodgers picks up some more bling, Montana>>>Rodgers

I don’t know about Buddy’s comment above mine…however, I’m sure glad he’s on out team. Why he’s even better than good ‘ol graybeard (Favre).

If you question the notion that Rodgers may be better than Montana you are either a pessamist or a non-Packer fan.

Rodgers has the arm of Marino, the football smarts of Manning/ Brady, and is the most accurate QB in the game. He has a unique approach to the game. Never gets rattled and his psyche is almost like that of a great golfer. Takes the game one play at a time and knows that he can only control so much. As long as the O-line keeps him protected over the next few years, he will be the best QB of all time.

2 of the 3 picks were tipped balls that went through our receiver’s hands. The other was just a great play by Urlacher.

I read a great article the other day. It said Rodgers grew up idolizing Montana. Romo grew up idolizing Favre. Apt comparisons.

Rodgers has all the brilliance of Favre, but without the “what the ????” moments. It’s hard to imagine that you can play the QB position at a higher level that Rodgers is now.

Rodgers is so good, that having to lay out, all the reasons why he’s the best, would be insulting to him. (And there are countless reasons why he is currently the best, and barring injury, may prove in the future, that he is the best, of all time. With that said, he has more work to do, but what a “great start”.

Remember this time last year, Rodgers critics would argue he wasn’t elite, was 0-1 in playoffs…….You dont hear a thing like that anymore. When Favre said he was suprised Rodgers didnt win sooner….I’d argue Rodgers would’ve have won sooner, if McCarthy replaced Favre in the 2007 NFCCG before Favre threw the pick at the end of the game. Ending the S B run.

James Jones talked about the -Run/Pass – Option that GB runs on the Larry McCarren show. They call 2 plays in the huddle, one a run and one a pass. Whichever formation the defense shows, Aaron selects the option which favors the Pack the most during that particular play. Genius, pure genius.

Rogers still has to finish the season. I was a huge Montana fan as a teenager. I remember seasons and games when they had no running game, when Montana had to scramble from defensive players just as good as now, just like Rogers has too, but Montana still made the super accurate passes even with a little less arm.And are you all saying Jerry Rice running full speed with a safety on Him was not up to todays speed? Bull crap Rice could still outrun some of them. I agree they are close and Rogers may pass Montana, but what ticks me off with most of you guys is You don’t really love football or you would have respect for what Montana did, and especially for what Favre did for the Packers fans. Why can’t you Packers fans enjoy having two of the best
QB’s of all time without bickering about it all the time. Favre didn’t rip you out of nothing. He gave you alot of good seasons and helped Rogers be who He is
