There were some pretty plays and the Green Bay Packers achieved the result everyone expected by beating the St. Louis Rams 24-3 Sunday.
The Packers became the NFL’s final unbeaten team, moving to 6-0, after the Detroit Lions lost to the San Francisco 49ers.
That’s about all there is to say.
Green Bay scored all their points in the first half of the game and looked pedestrian and uninspired in the second half. The defense gave up 321 passing yards to Sam Bradford and 96 rushing yards to Steven Jackson and the winless Rams seemed to move the ball at will, at times.
Of course, all those yards only turned into three points. A Sam Shields interception thwarted one Rams’ drive and three sacks helped kill others.
While the Packers defense was playing their usual bend-but-don’t break game, the offense used big plays to torch a beat-up Rams secondary… at least for one half.
Aaron Rodgers had 310 passing yards and three touchdowns. A big chunk of those came on a 35-yard scoring play to James Jones and a 93-yard pass to Jordy Nelson.
Rodgers also threw an interception and should have had another passed picked off. At times, the Packers passing game looked pedestrian. There were dropped balls, poorly-thrown passes and missed opportunities, particularly in the second half.
Still, none of it mattered against the Rams, who are among the NFL’s worse.
Had the Packers played a better team, Sunday’s sloppy effort may have produced a different result.
