As negotiations between the NFL and players drag on, we’re about to come up on our first real deadline, whether anyone wants to admit it or not.
It’s widely believed if a new labor deal isn’t complete by July 15, the NFL will have to start canceling games.
Whether regular-season games will be affected remains to be seen, but the preseason will be shortened, which means less revenue for these assholes to argue about.
If there’s hope the season starts on time, it’s this. Face-to-face negotiations are scheduled to take place through Friday.
Meanwhile, everyone seems to be going about their business with the idea that the NFL season will take place as usual. The Hall of Fame game, which is the first game of the season and set to take place on Aug. 7, is on schedule.
“We’re making all plans to have the game on time. We’ve heard from both parties — the owners and the players — and they’ve expressed their desire to have the game. So, that’s our plan,” hall president Steve Perry told ESPN.
If anything interesting develops this week, we’ll be sure to let you know.
