It’s true. I’m a homer.
So, when you’re talking about who the NFL’s best pass rusher is, I’ll say it’s the Green Bay Packers [intlink id=”454″ type=”category”]Clay Matthews[/intlink].
Of course, it’s hard to argue with the [intlink id=”140″ type=”category”]Dallas Cowboys[/intlink] DeMarcus Ware or the [intlink id=”196″ type=”category”]Indianapolis Colts[/intlink] Dwight Freeney, should they be your choice.
[intlink id=”62″ type=”category”]ESPN[/intlink] rolled out its list of the NFL’s 10 best pass rushers, as voted by their NFL writers, earlier this week. Ware finished first and Matthews came in second, followed by Freeney.
It wasn’t really close, either.
Ware totalled 79 points and received seven of eight first-place votes. Matthews had 61 points and Freeney had 58 and got the other first-place vote.
Ware led the league in sacks last season with 15.5. He’s had 72 in the past five years, which is the top total in the league, and at 28, Ware is in his prime.
Freeney, on the other hand, has just 43 sacks in the last five years, but commands more double and triple teams than any other player on the list. Freeney has also had injury problems, missing 10 games over the last four years, and at 31, is entering the latter part of his career.
In his two years in the league, Matthews has 24.5 sacks and at 24, has his best football ahead of him.
Who would you rather have?
