Raiders May Still Look At Perry, Moss

What these guys are waiting for is anyone's guess.

The Oakland Raiders remain the only NFL team with a defensive coordinator opening and, for whatever reason, they’re in no hurry to fill it.

When head coach Hue Jackson does get around to interviewing candidates, Green Bay Packers assistant head coach [intlink id=”304″ type=”category”]Winston Moss[/intlink] and safeties coach [intlink id=”462″ type=”category”]Darren Perry[/intlink] figure to get a shot. That is, if they don’t sign contract extensions with the Packers first, something Tom Silverstein suggests the team is working on.

Both Moss and Perry have expressed interest in advancement and both have a history with the Raiders. Moss played four years in Oakland and Perry served as their defensive backs coach for two.

“You never know,” Jackson said of hiring a defensive coordinator. “I know there’s still talented individuals out there. But that’s not important to the Raiders yet.”

It’s been suggested Raiders owner Al Davis is the reason for Oakland’s inactivity. The team can save money by waiting until after the lockout, which seems more like a certainty every day. If the Raiders wait until the league year ends on March 3, they can talk to anyone who’s contract has expired without seeking permission from their current team.

Losing Moss or Perry would be a blow to the Packers, but if the team loses only one defensive assistant this offseason, they’re in good shape. In addition to Moss and Perry, defensive line coach [intlink id=”316″ type=”category”]Mike Trgovac[/intlink] and cornerbacks coach [intlink id=”1241″ type=”category”]Joe Whitt[/intlink] have been mentioned as potential candidates for various openings around the league.
