There’s a headline you probably never thought you’d see, but it isn’t a mistake.
As we pointed out in our post-game analysis, punter Tim Masthay had a killer game in the Green Bay Packers 9-0 defeat of the New York Jets. At the time, we called him the game MVP.
Today, there’s word Masthay will be named the NFC’s special teams player of the week.
Against the Jets, Masthay punted eight times for a 44-yard gross average and a 41.5-yard net average. Masthay landed five of his kicks inside the 20 and the Jets had zero return yards on the day.
Obviously, field position was a major factor in the Packers’ victory, as was Masthay’s performance.
Masthay joins kicker Mason Crosby among Packers who have received the special teams player of the week award, this year. Clay Matthews and Charles Woodson each received the defensive award, as well.
