Green Bay Packers’ tackle/guard/man with no home T.J. Lang is expected to compete for a starting spot on the offensive line this season. It would be a surprise to me and probably a lot of other people if he didn’t win either the right tackle or left guard spot.
But before we go and insert Lang into the starting lineup, there’s the little matter of a wrist injury we’re going to have to consider.
Lang underwent surgery on his left wrist on April 5 and won’t be able to participate in the Packers’ OTAs, which begin next week.
Sure, OTAs are just a bunch of guys running around in shorts, but it’s hard to say Lang is a finished product in his second year, despite playing in all 16 games and making three starts last season. The work can only help Lang continue his development – something that many of us hope will enable him to replace the old and creaky Mark Tauscher at right tackle sooner rather than later.
If there’s good news, it’s that Lang will be ready for training camp. Hopefully, he isn’t too far behind to mount a challenge to Tauscher by then.
