Update: Allen was claimed on waivers by the offensively challenged Cleveland Browns.
———-
The Green Bay Packers promoted wide receiver Jake Allen from the practice squad on October 27, after injuries to Jordy Nelson, Brett Swain and Jermichael Finley had decimated their receiving corp.
Today, they gave Allen the old heave ho.
Allen played briefly against the Minnesota Vikings, but did not play against Tampa Bay or Dallas after suffering a quad injury in practice. He’s apparently been replaced as “the receiver who doesn’t get on the field” by Biren Ealy, who was promoted from the practice squad after Allen’s injury. Ealy played against Tampa Bay, but not against Dallas.
Neither Allen nor Ealy has caught a pass while on the varsity team.
In fact, Allen is more known (at least by me) as the cat who made the ghetto fabulous video we posted on October 27. You gonna see how we livin’ rich around here!
Word.
Anyway, the Packers will likely end up signing Allen back to the practice squad. No roster move has been announced to fill Allen’s spot.
