I’m going to go ahead and be the dissenter in this discussion. Putting all Monday morning coaching aside… the past cannot really be denied… he took over a 4-12 team… turned them into an 8-8 team.. then a 13-3 team.. Between him and Thompson I think they’ve moved this team forward.
This year was a bit of a long shot in the first place, with a brand new quarterback and huge questions on the offensive and defensive lines..and heading into a tough schedule coming off a year where balls just seemed to bounce their way (see Philadelphia and Washington games).
Not to say my mind couldn’t be changed… If they don’t even attempt to salvage this season, I would be willing to make the call for a coaching change this season… however, I mostly think McCarthy deserves another year and hasn’t warranted ALL the criticism.. at least not yet.
Give this team a year…and most of them are under contract, I think we’ll all see a vast improvement!
Bennie boy, I beg to differ. Not once has Big Mac displayed the ability to adjust his game plans, nor the coaches their schemes mid-game. When they have good game plans that catch the other team off-guard, he has coached great (i.e. Indy, Seattle). When things are not going well, Mac and his staff have not come up with solutions to counter what the other team is taking from them. His game prep coaching is probably his strength, but the true colors of a coach are shown on game day.
