Green Bay Packers safety Atari Bigby finally returned to the practice field Thursday, after being sidelined with a balky hamstring since the week two game against the Detroit Lions.
Bigby didn’t do a hell of a lot on his first day back – going through “limited practice” – but has a chance to play this weekend against the Colts.
Another guy who would like to play this weekend against the Colts is former Michigan standout and New England Patriot, Ty Law.
Although Law, arguably one of the best corners to ever play the game, is being courted by the Miami Dolphins, he would rather play for a contender. Law specifically mentions Dallas and Green Bay, citing the current absence of Al Harris in Green Bay.
Although he’s 34 years of age, Law has racked up 18 interceptions in the past three years and 58 in his 13 NFL seasons, including playoffs. Interestingly, Law was partially responsible for helping recruit current Packers’ cornerback and all-around stud, Charles Woodson to Michigan.
“I can walk in now and play on Sunday,” Law told NFL.com from Florida, where he has been training. “I just want to go out and play ball. I’ve been training to play, I’m ready to play, and I want to go play.”
First, I will confess that I’ve always loved Ty Law’s game. He’s been a tremendous performer in the NFL and it certainly wouldn’t hurt to have Law on the field when the Packers travel to Indianapolis to face Peyton Manning and the NFL’s No. 7 ranked passing offense this week.
However, after Indianapolis, the Packers go into their bye week. The following week should mark the return of Al Harris, which would relegate Law to a nickel back. On top of that, Tramon Williams has played tremendously in Harris’ absence, and while I love the sound of a Woodson, Harris, Law, Williams dime package, Tramon has more than earned playing time.
Essentially, Law would either be a one-week rental or would take away playing time from someone who has earned it, so the signing doesn’t make much sense.
Although, I do know someone the Packers could cut…
