In what has become a regular theme over the past month, we are again getting jerked around by one of the following: the media, the Green Bay Packers brass, or the Brett Favre camp.
As the media falls all over themselves to report on the latest development in the Brett Favre comeback story (read: Florio, Mortensen, Werder, the rest of the jerks at ESPN, Glazer, etc.), a lot of planted stories and one-sided pieces of information have come out.
As of Sunday, Brett Favre was triumphantly returning to Packers camp to compete in an open quarterback competition with Aaron Rodgers, according to the idiots at ESPN, who have been more than willing to print any and everything anyone whispered about Brett Favre since it was rumored that he wanted to comeback.
Mike McCarthy will announce Monday he’s holding an open competition between Favre and Aaron Rodgers for the starting quarterback position.
But wait, hold the phone!
It seems Mike McCarthy forgot to read the report and also forgot to hold his press conference about the open quarterback competition.
After a marathon meeting last night and more meeting time this morning between Brett and Mike, the Favre camp went to the ESPN well again. And, in the form other team-oriented superstars before him, such as Terrell Owens, Manny Ramirez, and Javon Walker, Favre did his negotiating through the media, telling the network that “this isn’t going to work,” and again asking for his release.
Which again brings us to the nightmare scenario – the one where we get backed into a corner by the meddling commissioner, have to release Brett, and get nothing for him. Brett, of course, ends up on the hated Queens of Minnesota.
Oddly enough, that exact scenario was predicted right here two weeks ago.
