A casual surf through Google news reveals several articles and blogs openly wondering if the Packers should draft a QB in the first round. Let me settle this right now.
No. They shouldn’t.
The way I see it, Aaron Rodgers is more advanced and NFL ready than any of the QBs coming out this year. Also, Rodgers is going to be under enough pressure as it is as Favre’s heir. Why complicate things further by throwing another 1st Round QB in the mix to look over his shoulder? And what if Rodgers becomes a star? Then you have wasted a pick and are left with a talented, young QB with a huge salary. Just ask Brady Quinn and the Browns how awesome that situation has been.
No, the Packers need to draft for a need. QB isn’t the biggest hole right now. I have a feeling they won’t do it, but a CB is the only choice here.
And those of you clamoring for some insurance behind Rodgers, don’t fret. The QB with the biggest upside in the draft will be available in the mid rounds… Kevin O’Connell out of SD State. 6’6, 230ish. Cannon arm AND he can fly.
