Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy confirmed the obvious yesterday, saying Desmond Bishop was the team’s No. 1 inside linebacker, but the rest of the group is surrounded by uncertainty.
The Packers confirmed Bishop was part of the team’s long-term plans after he took over for Nick Barnett and received a four-year extension in December. Meanwhile, Barnett and A.J. Hawk will be competing to start opposite Bishop.
The Green Bay Packers have to make a decision on linebacker A.J. Hawk at some point this offseason.
Hawk is guaranteed $10 million for the 2011 season under his current contract. That’s an amount the Packers have no intention of paying.
I’ll be honest. I’ve never been a big fan of Green Bay Packers linebacker A.J. Hawk. He’s simply never lived up to his status as the fifth-overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft. No All Pros, no Pro Bowls, never developed into a big-time playmaker. After he didn’t play a snap in the Packers season-opening […]
Green Bay Packers Nick Barnett and Jermichael Finley took issue with the fact the team wasn’t going to include the players on injured reserve in the team’s Super Bowl photo. They whined about it on Twitter and now that whining has paid off. The team was initially slated to take the photo on Tuesday, in […]
It’s one of those things that sits in the back of your mind that you don’t want to remember. And then someone brings it up and you can’t help but think about what could have been. The Green Bay Packers are playing the Philadelphia Eagles this week. You know the play I’m talking about. 4th […]
The Green Bay Packers have signed inside linebacker Desmond Bishop to a contract extension. The deal is reportedly for $19 million over four years. Bishop took over the starting job at inside linebacker after Nick Barnett’s season ended after week four, getting the first extensive action of his Packers’ career. He then proceeded to make […]
Green Bay Packers linebacker Desmond Bishop finally got his chance to start and he’s making the most of it. Bishop has outperformed Nick Barnett, who he replaced in the starting lineup after Barnett’s season-ending wrist injury, by a wide margin. So far this season, Bishop has 54 tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble, and an […]
As the Green Bay Packers’ injuries began to pile up, quite a few people thought the wheels were about to fall off. The Packers currently have 10 players on injured reserve, five of which are starters, eight of which play defense. While Ryan Grant and the Packers lack of a certifiable running game was the […]
I’ve always questioned the Green Bay Packers coaching staff and their reluctance to give young players a shot when those players were behind veterans on the depth chart. Mike McCarthy and company always have some reason to stick with the veteran over the young guy, even when the young guy has a similar talent level. […]
The Green Bay Packers got some good news on the injury front, Wednesday, which is a refreshing change of pace for the team. The most important development is linebacker Clay Matthews returned to practice after missing last Sunday’s game with Miami. Matthews only took part in the jog through portion of practice, but barring a […]
