Awkward silence, anyone? The 2011 NFL lockout may be in full swing, but that didn’t stop Green Bay Packers players and brass from spending five days on a bus together this week for the annual Packers Tailgate Tour across Upper Michigan and Wisconsin. According to The Associated Press, coach Mike McCarthy, general manager Ted Thompson and several other staff members saw the bus off Tuesday.
Nick Barnett wants to finish his career with the Green Bay Packers. He made that abundantly clear Thursday, saying he’s willing to work with the organization to make it happen. The Packers may have other ideas, though.
The NFL and their rules are stupid. Here we are in the midst of a lockout, the players no longer have a functioning union, they’re suing the league and the rules dictate players cannot talk to coaches or team executives. Players cannot be at team facilities. No offseason programs can be conducted. Team executives cannot […]
Twelve members of the world champion Green Bay Packers were on hand for the Milwaukee Brewers home opener Monday afternoon to throw out the first pitch… er, pitches. I’m only kidding about the Brewers signing anyone, but hell, none of the Packers have anything to do during the damn lockout and the Brewers supposedly vaunted […]
The Green Bay Packers starting inside linebackers in 2011 will be Desmond Bishop and A.J. Hawk.
That leaves Nick Barnett and Brandon Chillar, both of whom are coming off season-ending injuries, in a precarious position.
The Packers have committed $10 million to Hawk, this season and Bishop will make more than $5 million. Barnett has a salary cap number north of $6 million and Chillar makes more than $5 million per season, after signing a four-year extension in 2009.
I bet Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy wishes he kept his mouth shut.
I bet inside linebacker Desmond Bishop wishes he would have waited until after the season to sign a new contract.
A.J. Hawk, on the other hand, has to be happier than a pig in shit
With the re-signing of A.J. Hawk and the declaration that Desmond Bishop is the Green Bay Packers No. 1 inside linebacker, there doesn’t seem to be much room for Nick Barnett in Green Bay.
The idea that Barnett would compete with Hawk to start opposite Bishop was floated by coach Mike McCarthy, but the thought is ludicrous.
Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy confirmed the obvious yesterday, saying Desmond Bishop was the team’s No. 1 inside linebacker, but the rest of the group is surrounded by uncertainty.
The Packers confirmed Bishop was part of the team’s long-term plans after he took over for Nick Barnett and received a four-year extension in December. Meanwhile, Barnett and A.J. Hawk will be competing to start opposite Bishop.
With Desmond Bishop receiving a contact extension, defensive end Cullen Jenkins should be the top priority for the Green Bay Packers. The Packers have several key players who are scheduled to be free agents under the current system, which is expected to be extended at some point. In addition to Jenkins, they include fullbacks John […]
The Green Bay Packers have signed inside linebacker Desmond Bishop to a contract extension. The deal is reportedly for $19 million over four years. Bishop took over the starting job at inside linebacker after Nick Barnett’s season ended after week four, getting the first extensive action of his Packers’ career. He then proceeded to make […]
Green Bay Packers linebacker Desmond Bishop finally got his chance to start and he’s making the most of it. Bishop has outperformed Nick Barnett, who he replaced in the starting lineup after Barnett’s season-ending wrist injury, by a wide margin. So far this season, Bishop has 54 tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble, and an […]
As the Green Bay Packers’ injuries began to pile up, quite a few people thought the wheels were about to fall off. The Packers currently have 10 players on injured reserve, five of which are starters, eight of which play defense. While Ryan Grant and the Packers lack of a certifiable running game was the […]
I’ve always questioned the Green Bay Packers coaching staff and their reluctance to give young players a shot when those players were behind veterans on the depth chart. Mike McCarthy and company always have some reason to stick with the veteran over the young guy, even when the young guy has a similar talent level. […]
The Green Bay Packers finally pulled out a close game and in doing so, ended the curse of Brett Favre, beating the Minnesota Vikings 28-24. The Packers sit in a tie with the Chicago Bears atop the NFC North with the Chicago Bears at 4-3. Although the Packers defense gave up plenty of yards — […]
The Green Bay Packers got some good news on the injury front, Wednesday, which is a refreshing change of pace for the team. The most important development is linebacker Clay Matthews returned to practice after missing last Sunday’s game with Miami. Matthews only took part in the jog through portion of practice, but barring a […]
The Green Bay Packers did everything they could to keep the Washington Redskins in the football game for four quarters. In the end, the Redskins finally took advantage to win 16-13 on a Graham Gano 33-yard field goal in overtime. After a strong first half, the Packers offense failed to do anything of note in […]
If you haven’t heard that the Green Bay Packers have a shitload of injuries, well… then get the hell out of here. The Packers will be down four week one starters against the Redskins this week — five, if you count linebacker Brandon Chillar and six, if you count cornerback Sam Shields. Those players are […]
When Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy said linebacker Nick Barnett could miss an extended period with a wrist injury, we didn’t anticipate “extended period” meant “the rest of the year.” However, that appears to be a real possibility. Multiple sources have confirmed Barnett’s initial diagnosis — that he will need surgery to repair his […]
The Green Bay Packers got some good news and some bad news on Wednesday. First, the bad news. Linebacker Nick Barnett, who injured his wrist against the Detroit Lions and finished the game anyway, could be out an extended period, according to coach Mike McCarthy. Barnett is getting a second opinion on Friday. “Yeah, there […]
Two days after learning they’ll lose starting safety Morgan Burnett for the season, the Green Bay Packers may be down a second valuable defender. Reports are linebacker Brandon Chillar, who didn’t play Sunday, may have a serious shoulder injury. Chillar injured his shoulder against Detroit and his agent now says it may end his season. […]
