Update: Scott Wells’ deal is for four years and is worth $25.5 million, with $13 million guaranteed. That’s $6.3 million per season, which puts Wells among the highest-paid centers in the league and is about $1 million more per season than the Packers wanted to pay.

We figured this day would be coming soon and today it did. The Green Bay Packers starting center in 2011, Scott Wells, signed a free agent contract with the St. Louis Rams.
No details were immediately available, but it’s known Wells wanted to be paid as one of the top five centers in the NFL. That means a deal in the $5-7 million neighborhood. The last we heard, Wells was asking for around $7 million and the Packers were offering around $5 million.
The team seemingly made little to no effort to re-sign Wells when free agency began and will now have to make a move to find his replacement. Green Bay has been linked to Houston free agent Chris Myers, but there’s no sign they’ve made any contact with him.
What we do know is this. The Packers wouldn’t have let Wells walk if they didn’t have a plan to replace him.
