The Green Bay Packers are reportedly interested in kicking the tires on free agent tight end Jermaine Gresham.
Multiple sources have reported that the Packers will have Gresham in for a visit this week.
As we’ve noted time and again, the Packers tight end position was garbage last year with Richard Rodgers and Andrew Quarless. The latter had been getting accolades for his offseason work from multiple sources, but then he went and fired off a gun during a drunken argument and pretended to be a plant, earlier this month.
That incident could very well earn Quarless a suspension, so the potential addition of Gresham makes sense on two fronts.
The guy is just 27 and he’s a two-time Pro Bowler.
Last year, Gresham caught 62 balls for 460 yards and five touchdowns with the Red Rifle throwing him the ball.
Wonder what he could do with a real quarterback…
So you’re probably wondering why Gresham is still available on the free agent market. As well you should be.
The Oakland Raiders were going to make a run at Gresham when free agency opened in March. However, they found he had a herniated disc and that injury required surgery.
Now that he appears to be healthy, Gresham has suitors lining up.
The New Orleans Saints offered him a contract last month and Gresham visited the Arizona Cardinals earlier this week.
The Packers have plenty of salary cap room to sign Gresham if they want to. And if the price isn’t too steep, why the hell not?
