Remember when the Chicago Bears were good? That team started the season 7-1. They’ve now lost five of their last six, including a 21-13 pounding by the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.
With the win, the Packers clinched the NFC North and extended their winning streak against division opponents to 12 and their winning streak against the Bears to six.
Do you remember when Lovie Smith was hired? Said he was there to beat the Packers? Well, he won’t have a job this time next year.
The Packers put up 21 largely on the shoulders of James Jones and Aaron Rodgers. Jones caught all three of Rodgers’ TD passes.
He didn’t carry the whole offense though. Randall Cobb did that.
Cobb finished with six catches for 115 yards and more importantly, was the guy Rodgers looked to when he needed a play. Cobb delivered time and a again.
On the other side of the ball, the Packers shut down Chicago’s passing game… again.
Jay Cutler?
Chicago’s quarterback was 12 for 21 for 135 yards, one touchdown and one pick.
Big-mouth Brandon Marshall?
Five for 64 and a TD.
In other words, talk all you want. You’re still getting shut down on Sunday when you play the Packers.
The other good news is, the pass rush returned with Clay Matthews.
Matthews had two sacks on Sunday and Mike Neal chipped in 1.5. The Packers had one sack in the past three weeks without Matthews.
And now that the Packers have put the Bears out of their misery, they can hopefully get healthy and look to the playoffs.
