You’re going to hear plenty about this leading up to this weekend’s match-up with the Green Bay Packers, so we’re going to get it out of the way. The Dallas Cowboys are undefeated on the road this season.
Do you know how many fucks we give about that?
The same number that Cutty! does.
Doooooooooooooon’t caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaare!
That equals zero, in case you were confused.
First of all, the Packers haven’t lost at Lambeau Field this year either, but let’s throw that out for a moment and indulge all of those clowns on the Cowboys bandwagon. Clearly, an unblemished road record is more impressive than an unblemished home slate. So let’s break it down.
Seven teams in NFL history, prior to this year’s Cowboys, have gone undefeated on the road for an entire season. Here are the other teams to have accomplished that feat.
- 2007 New England Patriots (16-0) — lost Super Bowl
- 2001 St. Louis Rams (14-2) — lost Super Bowl
- 1990 San Francisco 49ers (14-2) — lost NFC Championship
- 1989 San Francisco 49ers (14-2) — won Super Bowl
- 1984 San Francisco 49ers (15-1) — won Super Bowl
- 1982 Washington Redskins (8-1) — won Super Bowl
- 1972 Miami Dolphins (14-0) — won Super Bowl
Now, you probably notice something there. All but one of those teams at least went to the Super Bowl, which means Dallas will be the second team in NFL history to go undefeated on the road and not make it to the Super Bowl.
They’ll also be the first to lose in the divisional round.
Yeah, we’re getting ahead of ourselves, but that’s because of this.
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK the Cowboys!
If you throw Dallas’ 12-4 record in with those teams, you probably notice something else. This year’s Cowboys had two more losses than any of those teams. That would lead any sane person to conclude these Cowboys aren’t nearly as complete of a team as those seven other teams were.
So let’s look at just who the Cowboys beat on the road this season.
- Tennessee (2-14)
- St. Louis (6-10)
- Seattle (12-4)
- Jacksonville (3-13)
- New York Giants (6-10)
- Chicago (5-11)
- Philadelphia (10-6)
- Washington (4-12)
Are you doing the math there?
That’s a combined record of 48-80. That’s a .375 winning percentage. That’s two wins against teams with records over .500. That’s one win against a playoff team.
So anyone blathering on about this undefeated on the road shit can go ahead and jam that straight up their ass.
The only thing that’s impressive about that stat is that the Cowboys went to Seattle and beat the Seahawks.
Now, we’re not suggesting the Cowboys will be pushovers on Sunday, but the Packers should be and are favored in the game.
Don’t believe the hype.
