Count former Green Bay Packers coach Mike Sherman among those who think the rift with Brett Favre will be repaired. Sherman, who is now the Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator, told Greg Bedard Favre cherished his time with the Packers.
“I think time will pass and everything will be made right,” Sherman said of the Packers-Favre divorce. “Green Bay has meant too much to him as a player and as a person and he’s been too much for them.
“I know there’s some hard feelings, maybe on both sides, but at the same time I think with time that all dissipates and he’ll be welcomed back with open arms. The dust just has to settle a little bit and the pain of his exit has to heal a little bit and I think he’ll be what he was. He was an icon.
“I know he loved his time in Green Bay and has phenomenal memories. I know that he cherishes every single Sunday that he went out that tunnel to the cheers of those fans. I think eventually that will heal up and be put in the past.”
Favre recently spoke to the NFL Network and for the first time openly complimented his former understudy, Aaron Rodgers. Some see that as a sign Favre is trying to mend fences with the organization.
We see it as a step in the right direction, but it’s going to take more for Favre to get back in the Packers good graces. Sherman is right though. Eventually, enough time will pass and most people will forget that one of the greatest players in Packers history played for the stain of an organization that is the Minnesota Vikings.
We may or may not be among them.
