Mike McCarthy is mad as hell and he’s not going to take this anymore! Except that he probably will.
Of course, we’re talking about the inability of the Green Bay Packers to tackle opposing ball carriers. That inability was on display again Sunday night in New Orleans, where the Packers let an all-around shitbird named Mark Ingram run for a career-best 172 yards.
I don’t know how or why, but so few guys on the Packers defense will wrap up and attempt to drive through the guy they’re trying to tackle. Instead — and Davon House was a perfect example of this shit — they’ll go low and launch themselves at the ball carrier. They don’t wrap up and they’re usually not planted on the ground, so they can’t drive through even if they wanted to.
I mean, football 101, you stupid assholes.
But anyway, Buffoon is just as pissed.
“We need to tackle the damn ball carrier and put him on the ground,” he said. “That’s what we’ll be focused on.”
Rawr!
The Packers were credited with 13 missed tackles on Sunday. Nine of those came from the secondary. If you wanted to draw a logical line, you could look at the fact that the Packers primarily play nickel, which leaves them outmatched in the running game.
So maybe alter the scheme?
It doesn’t sound like that’s going to happen. BUT!
It does sound like the Packers might consider benching the bozos who can’t tackle.
“Everybody wants to talk about scheme and personnel,” McCarthy said. “That’s something that you’re always weighing or looking at. Or are there other individuals who deserve opportunities? Can we use other individuals a certain way? That’s really what we talk about as coaches day-in and day-out. Our issue is on run D are fundamental. We need to do a better job of staying square [and] getting in our gaps.”
In previous years, we might have just laughed this suggestion off.
Other individuals who deserve opportunities? In Green Bay? Where A.J. will be starting for eternity? Hahahahahahaha!
However, to his credit, Buffoon has actually benched guys who have played like shit this year. Namely, Brad Jones. He’s also replaced Micah Hyde with Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Jamari Lattimore with Sam Barrington and given House a bump ahead of Casey Hayward.
Here’s an idea. Maybe it’s time to consider moving Hyde back to cornerback. He’s arguably the best tackler among the cornerbacks. Then House doesn’t need to be on the field pretending that he’s trying to tackle a running back. He can go back to the dime where he belongs.
