Former Green Bay Packers guard Jerry Kramer finally got the Pro Football Hall of Fame call this year. On Thursday, he got fitted for his gold jacket.
Among his thoughts were, “I’ve waited 50 years for this.”
And, “I’d never dreamed it would be this good.”

We’ve long considered Kramer an oversight for the Hall of Fame. He is a member of the 1960s All-Decade team. He’s a member of the NFL’s 50th Anniversary team.
He was a five-time first-team All Pro. He was part of the reason Jim Taylor and Paul Hornung are in the Hall, as one of the lead blockers on the Lombardi Sweep.
It’s about time Kramer made the Hall. Long overdue. Like linebacker Dave Robinson before him, who was also a senior committee pick, Kramer likely suffered somewhat from the Lombardi hangover. That in which voters feel they can’t put too many players in from the same team from a certain era.
Of course, Kramer also had additional red flags that potentially hindered his candidacy.
All is moot now, though.
Jerry Kramer has the jacket. He’ll get the bust. He’ll take his rightful place among the game’s greats.
