Tight end Brandon Bostick’s failure to recover the Seattle Seahawks’ onside kick was instrumental in the Green Bay Packers’ loss on Sunday.
One failure of many down the stretch for the Packers.
After the game, Bostick admitted trying to recover the ball wasn’t his job on the play. He was supposed to block for Jordy Nelson, whose job it was to recover the kick.
“No, that’s not my job at all,” he said. “I was supposed to block. I felt like I had my hands on the ball. It just slipped away, I guess. I just got hit and didn’t have the ball.
“I just reacted to the ball. I thought I could get it. Obviously, I couldn’t.”
Tough position.
Obviously, you react to the football. If it’s coming right at you, your first instinct probably isn’t to get out of the way. It probably shouldn’t be either and players in Bostick’s position do have the okay to field the football.
Of course, they have to field it cleanly and Bostick didn’t do that.
And does it really even matter at this point? Probably not.
