He’s baaaaaaaaaaack.
That was the message Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy for reporters during his Thursday press conference.
McCarthy was referring to quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ mobility.
“I would think he’s back,” McCarthy said. “He’s in excellent shape. He’s moved very well. There’s two ways to throw the football – drop back or you have an action passing game. Ability to move the quarterback is something that stresses the defense.”
Rodgers was hindered by a calf injury he suffered late in the regular season that he played with throughout the playoffs.
While it didn’t seem to slow Rodgers or the Packers in terms of moving the ball, it certainly limited their offensive attack.
Rodgers is at his best when he’s moving around. You could argue he throws better on the run than he does from the pocket. You could also say that he’s the best at throwing on the run in the league and you probably wouldn’t get much of an argument.
The Packers utilize that because, as McCarthy noted, it stresses the defense.
This is going to be a fun season.
