To the surprise of absolutely no one, the Green Bay Packers have ruled concussed cornerback Sam Shields out of Sunday’s contest with the Detroit Lions. Five other players are listed as questionable.
So if you had week 2 in the when-will-the-Packers-start-their-annual-injury-parade pool, you win.
Listed as questionable are safety Morgan Burnett, defensive tackle Letroy Guion, linebacker Datone Jones, linebacker Clay Matthews and, surprise!, guard T.J. Lang.
Lang was listed as a limited participant on the injury report, which would suggest he will play.
The other four guys really do appear questionable. Saturday’s final practice will be telling.
We’re told all five guys will give practice a shot and see what happens. After injuring his knee against Minnesota, Guion was expected to be sidelined this week. The Packers prepared themselves for that possibility when they added Brian Price to the active roster earlier this week.
If both Matthews and Jones are sidelined, the Packers great depth at outside linebacker might actually be tested. Nick Perry will man one spot, while the other will likely end up being a rotation of Julius Peppers and rookie Kyler Fackrell.
And if Burnett is out, who cares? Micah Hyde is a better player anyway.
