Apparently, you’re not doing a good enough job of being a Green Bay Packers fan.
So says the one subjective study on the matter that we’ve seen. That study, conducted by Dr. Mike Lewis of Emory University’s Goizueta School of Business, has Packers fans ranked 11th out of the 32 fan bases.
This isn’t the first time this study has been conducted and the Packers have never fared as well as you would expect. That’s largely because one of the factors used to rank the fans are average ticket price. The Packers have always kept their ticket prices — when compared to the rest of the NFL — in the middle of the road.
So it seems to us that the only real way this could actually measure the top fan bases would be if all 32 NFL teams had the same ticket prices. Then you could base that metric on attendance.
The study goes further than that of course, using social media as the other big ranking factor. If you care to read more about how the rankings were compiled, you can do so here.
The New England Patriots have the league’s best fans based on Lewis’ methodology.
