The Green Bay Packers’ two primary injury concerns at the moment are left tackle David Bakhtiari and cornerback Sam Shields.
Bakhtiari hurt his knee in Oakland and Shields missed that game after suffering a concussion the week prior against Dallas. Of the two, Bakhtiari seems to be moving toward playing a little more rapidly, but there are currently no guarantees for either guy this week.
“He’s getting better. So we’ll see,” Packers coach Mike McCarthy said of Bakhtiari. “He’ll do a little bit more today than yesterday. I think Dave and Sam will go all week to Saturday’s practice out there to get an evaluation.”
The key thing here is both guys are doing something.
We’re sure they’ll both be listed as questionable on Friday, but unless there’s a setback, we’d also bet both guys will play.
Sunday’s game against the Cardinals is important because a loss would eliminate any chance the Packers have for the No. 2 seed in the NFC. The Cardinals currently hold that spot and a two-game lead over Green Bay.
A Cardinals’ win and the No. 2 goes to Arizona. A Packers’ win sets the stage for an interesting week 17.
Unless someone’s arm is hanging on by a tendon, we suspect they’ll probably be on the field.
