The possibility appears somewhat real that the Green Bay Packers could be without starting safety Morgan Burnett on Sunday.
Burnett missed his second straight practice with a calf injury, on Thursday. It’s unknown when Burnett suffered the injury.
Coach Mike McCarthy didn’t offer anything about Burnett’s condition prior to practice. Instead, he praised the rest of the safeties.
“I think our safety group is very experienced,” McCarthy said. “We have five players that have the ability to play safety. I think we’re definitely more experienced there. It’s a group that everybody has something a little different to offer. I always think that’s a positive attribute to your defense. Feel very good about the safety depth and the whole group.”
If Burnett can’t play, the next guy up would likely be Micah Hyde. He began last season as a starter alongside Burnett and played extensively as the Packers’ slot cornerback.
Hyde had been dealing with a neck injury, but has practiced the past two days.
