That’s what Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy is calling Sunday night’s win over Seattle — defensive tackle B.J. Raji’s best game as a Packer.
“It’s one of his best or was his best football game as a Green Bay Packer, in my opinion,” McCarthy said of Raji.
That’s a fairly bold statement.
I mean, look. Raji hasn’t had a good game in at least three seasons prior to this one. Probably more like four. He did have some impactful games back in 2010, including the one highlight everyone remembers.
Raji had 6.5 sacks that season, his best as a pro. Then he quickly became a non-factor.
From 2012-13, Raji didn’t have a single sack. In 2014, he missed the entire year with an injury.
We get it though.
Raji looks like a new man this season.
We pointed it out after Sunday’s win. Raji was in the opposing backfield more than we can remember him being in a long time. He finished with two tackles for loss.
Through two games, he’s playing at a Pro Bowl level.
It’s almost like he wants more than a bargain one-year deal from the Packers after this season. Or maybe he’s tired of hearing everyone say B.J. Raji doesn’t have it anymore. Or maybe the guy just has some pride.
Whatever it is that’s driving him, keep it up.
We see ya. We’ll stop riding your ass if you keep playing like this.
