At first suggestion, one might think that a skull motif would be difficult not to pull off. Any foray into low-end jewelry, t-shirt designs and other adolescent-oriented clothing at places like Hot Topic instruct otherwise. Still, incorporation of a skull or skull and crossbones should be the perfect symbol for a sports team with pirates as their mascot. The swords and football however make their mark too ornate, too overdrawn. This is exacerbated greatly by the new, oversized logo design that was unveiled last year.
The real failing of the Bucs uniform however is not their logo, it is not even its color scheme. It’s the uniform design — a design which has only grown worse with the recent revamp. As with other more recent uniforms from the same fad, the “futuristic” lettering looks dated to about 1970s vision of what 2015 would be like. The different colors and different panels from the shoulder to the torso clashes.
It is difficult how a team could do worse from their original Creamsicle getups.
The Bucs however managed to do just that.
