We’re kidding, of course. Mason Crosby actually had a decent season, last year. At least when he wasn’t being undone by Shawn Slocum’s terrible special teams unit.
We make the joke because the NFL decided that they were going to do something to spice up the good old extra point, on Tuesday.
Wooooooooo!
Extra points will now be fun!
Weeeeeeeeee!
The league, i.e. the owners, voted to move extra points from the 2-yard line all the way back to the 15-yard line.
Bam!
Now you’ve got yourself a 33-yard field goal for a single point. Because a 33-yard field goal is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more exciting than a 17-yard one!
Oh, but the fun doesn’t stop there. No sir!
The new rule dictates that the defense can also score two points if they block the PAT and return it.
Where’s Shawn Slocum now? That was one of his specialties.
Not getting his unit to block the kick, but giving up blocks. The Green Bay Packers would be a two-point generating machine (for the other team) if Slocum were still employed!
Well, what about the two-point conversion, you ask?
That’s staying at the 2-yard line where it’s always been. So now Chip Kelly finally has that excuse to go for two after every score he’s always been looking for.
Because it’s closer!
