We’re getting into the part of the offseason where everybody is pretty much done signing free agents. And there’s our main man Jarrett Bush, still a free agent.
Most teams, including the Green Bay Packers, started offseason workouts on Monday.
Those two things don’t exactly bode well for Bush’s chances of returning to the Packers in 2015.
If the Packers were planning on re-signing Bush, it certainly seems like they would have done so already. They probably could have given him a 20 spot and a free admission voucher to The Oval Office and gotten his signature. In other words, we can’t imagine the two sides are arguing about money and that’s why a deal isn’t done.
So what’s the problem?
The problem is Bush will be 31 next month. That’s ancient as far as Ted Thompson is concerned.
While we would point out that Bush is still the Packers’ best special teams player, he’s only been a spot starter on defense during his career. The Packers may very well be thinking, hey, we’ve got younger guys who can do the same things Bush can.
We saw this very same thing last offseason. Everyone with the Packers just remains mum until the regular season rolls around and oh, look, a certain veteran player isn’t on the roster. Last year, it happened with Ryan Pickett and Johnny Jolly.
This year, it seems destined to happen with Jarrett Bush.
