Rajion Neal Probably Isn’t Making the Roster
We were all pretty excited about running back Rajion Neal after his performance in the first week of the preseason. He looked like he had a legit shot of making the roster, especially considering DuJuan Harris has been underwhelming.
Well, you can probably shoot that notion in the ass.
Neal, who injured his knee in that first preseason game and hasn’t practiced since, has — stop me if you’re heard this one before — a more severe injury than originally thought.
Coach Mike McCarthy said Neal is going to be out a couple more weeks.
“I think the initial was just his excitement and wanting to play,” McCarthy said on Tuesday. “It’s going to be a couple weeks.”
And where does a couple weeks put us? Regular season.
With only a one-game sample to rely on, Neal has virtually zero chance of making the Packers final roster. So it’s either injured reserve, the practice squad or sayonara altogether.
Whichever direction the Packers decide to go, they’re going to be well stocked at running back. The third man on the depth chart isn’t going get many carries as long as Eddie Lacy and James Starks are healthy.
Monty McMahon is one of the founders of Total Packers. He is probably the most famous graduate of UW-Oshkosh next to Jim Gantner.
